Spike Milligan did the same (talk openly) about schizophreniform episodes. He was persuaded to re-enact his own illness. If you haven't seen the programme, and get a chance, its highly recommended.

Update: life continues to improve! Lovely Christmas Day with daughter, son-in-law, his parents and with Georga, the family dog providing the essential toddler Christmas excitement. Her tail didn't stop wagging, she was excited by all the presents and by being with some of her favourite people. Out again yesterday and between times reorganising the flat and dealing with a year's accumulated correspondence. Couldn't believe how long it took to renew my driving licence at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/index.htm or the depth of the interrogation involved and still the other bureaucracies will not accept a licence alone as proof of id.Happily for me, the information all cross-checked successfully with my passport and National Insurance records. Wonder if DVLA have software to age the last photograph and compare it with the new one? Rhetorical question to which I do not want to know the answer! As soon as I think it's not too unneigbourl to do so, I will continue to move furniture and generally de-clutter. Might even hoover but perhaps that's a bit extreme, having room to move must be the start point

Thank you Ed! I have been through the range of anti-depressants - the one that does seem to be working for me is the recently introduced Venlafaxine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venlafaxine. Exercise does help of course (but that means going Out) and is probably next on my list of things to do, things that don't involve duvets or daytime TV :)

It's nice to read some happy news for a change (obviously I mean your daughter's wedding, not your depression!). As for the depression have you found any anti-depressants that do the job? They seem to be of limited benefit for a lot of people. I find getting some exercise can sometimes be helpful, even if it's just a brisk walk, though I suppose when someone's in the grips of depression just getting out of bed can be impossible. Oh well, who knows, maybe next year things will improve.

Taking prescribe medication for any psychological disorder is a good thing. But, we must also consider the fact that each chemical remedies can cause effect to our body. I am not saying that it is totally bad but we have to consider somethings in life. I would recommend to consult a counselor for more options and therapies. Work with your problem in the better and healthier way.
